Record review, Love part 2

Tom DeLonge and crew, come back for a part two of the LOVE album. The album starts off with a usual AVA intro, that is dramatic before going into their trademarked sound of atmospheric, U2 – type guitar riffs. The album has a few interludes, that lead into the next track; as with any other Angels record. Lyrically there is words that are not that deep, and are arranged to sound good together. Also comes, the usual lyrics Tom likes to use “fall fast asleep”, “kids kick and scream”, as heard on all previous records. The standout track is the closing song, “All That We Are”. A touching piano line is repeated, while the song builds up, around it. And Tom, stretches himself to actually sing, in a non Angels cliché. The words are only used for the first couple minutes. The 5 and half minute track is mostly a build up, into a, layered guitar solo. Is this a growth for AVA, maybe. At the end of the day, it is another Angels and Airwaves album, with nothing new, and what the fans expect each time.

The Ab Diet!

Two Thanksgivings ago, my dad lent me the book “The Abs Diet” by David Zinczenko. At first I was really excited to see what it was all about. I had gained more weight than I had thought since turning 21, and wanted a good lean, strong, body. So I did the diet for 6 weeks, as the book instructed. It explains how it is a lifestyle, and to “not cheat yourself, but treat yourself!” I gave up after the 6 weeks, not satisfied. This book shows you how you can eat 6 properly portioned meals a day, and workout. One ingredient that is a “power food mvp” is protein, and in powder form. In highschool I was a scrawny 160lb guy, and never thought of weight being a problem. After I turned 21 I hit up the bar scenes, and starting drinking, a lot. So while on my first round about, the program, I cut my drinking to two days a week. I was bulky, muscular, and my shirts weren’t fitting anymore. In addition to the ab workouts, and lifting the book talks about, I rode my bike everyday on a trail near my house.

I started getting comments by people who hadn’t seen me in a while, that I’ve bulked up, and gotten really big. I didn’t want to be big though. I wanted to be lean. So a year later almost to the day, I started the abs diet again, as I gained more weight. Well how many times do I have to hit my head against the wall before I realize it hurts? More bulkiness, and a bigger gut (while cutting drinking down to 2-3 days a week). My mom and dad are really into fitness, and my mom is even an aerobic director at a local gym. I went to them for advice. It seems like everyone, and every website has a different take on how to diet the “right way”. In the Abs Diet book, it denounces all other “fad” diets, like Adkins, Weight Watchers, crash diets, etc. And how this is the only book you’ll ever need for dieting. Well it didn’t work out that way in the end. And this book is a New York Times bestseller. So now, I’m doing a normal diet starting today, (already quit the protein powder) and eating 3 reasonably portioned meals a day, and working out, the way I know that has worked for me.

So thanks Dave, the editor and chief of Mens Health, for not only making me a body builder shape, but with a big gut, with all the carbs, protein powder, and “motivational” tweets. (his tweets are cycled, and same tweets, over and over again) I now know through talking to numerous people, some expert, some not, (their bodies don’t lie) how I am going to diet, and get lean again. I am 6’1 and 200lbs.

Everyone’s body is different, and react to food, differently. So you never know if this  ab or any diet really could work for you or not. Find your own path, and do what works for you, and be safe about it.
